AB OBJECT: To find out the percentage of HIV among the attenders of STD
Clinics by surveillance METHOD: The present study is unlinked ananimous.
The study is conducted over the STD Clinic attenders who belong to the
high risk group in two major hospitals in different areas of the State.
Either 400 attenders or the number of attenders seen in 6 weeks duration
has been taken for the study. Both the male and the female classified
under 20 years and above 20 years are tested for HIV in Sera Elisa test
has used for this purpose. Duration of the study was between 6-8-93 to
11-9-93. OUTCOME: On the rural based hospital the percentage was 5.4 &
in the urban based hospital the percentage was 2.2 CONCLUSION: 1. Risk
factor is more in rural than in the urban, contrary to the belief the
HIV incident is more in the urban. 2. Over all 3.4% of HIV among STD
attenders who belongs to High Risk Behaviours cause a great concern for
the AIDS Control Programme Officers of the State which is known for its
conservations and cultural heritage.
